Marian Seldes was a famous acting coach and teacher at Juliard. Her work is fantastic on Mystery Theater. She usually plays a smart, sexy character. Some times, her maturity ebbed too strongly for parts requiring a younger voice. You can't listen to Mystery Theater and not appreciate Ms. Seldes.

Davy Joe

Marian Seldes is one of my favorite guest stars on CBSRMT. Her voice is entrancing and her immense talent quite evident. What's interesting is that she's currently viewed as one of the legendary stage actresses of our time, and is revered for both her talent and her work ethic. I had the honor of corresponding with her, through a friend and her daughter, a few years ago, and found her (and her very kind daughter) to be a delightful person. When someone as accomplished as that continues to be a kind and classy person, they deserve a respect level that's difficult to eclipse. If there were a CBSRMT Hall of Fame, Marian Seldes would be a charter member.

William from Baltimore

In my opinion, Seldes would had made a much better female host for CBSRMT when Marshall quit. She has a strong, fascinating voice for a woman and her multi-syllable name would have sounded better when she introduced herself; Grimes was a rather weak host. I like her in 'The Hole in the Sky'.

Brian Collins

RIP, Marian Seldes. I saw her on Broadway, Off-Broadway, and in regional theaters, and she was consistently strong and amazing to watch. She was a brilliant actress and teacher, and a treasure of the American stage. The performances on CBSRMT unfortunately only show a glimmer of what she was capable of, often don't flatter her, and show her very histrionic side. Don't let that mislead you. She was one of the best.

Passed away on October 6, 2014. As a stalwart of CBSRMT, her name is of course familiar to most anyone who's heard the show. http://www.nytimes.com/2014/10/08/theater/marian-seldes-regal-presence-of-broadway-dies-at-86.html

Matt Sandwich

She was a legend, and full of class. Her voice always reminded me of the late Elizabeth Montgomery's. Class, class, class.

Kurt

Compelling, adaptable and gifted. I've been thinking about my favorite lady radio performer too

Glenn

This is very sad. In September, I called the talent agency that represented Marian Seldes. I spoke to a woman and told her I was interested in writing to Ms Seldes to ask questions in general about the studio. The woman was so polite and friendly, She told me that since I was not requesting photos, no manila envelopes would be needed, etc. She told me she would surely forward the letter. I wrote on the first of October. I was going to start the month off positively. Unfortunately, I waited until the 8th, to the mail her letter. She passed 2 days before. I lost out.

Robert RJMGREEN@AOL.COM

@Robert RJMGREEN, I don't think you really lost out. Even if the letter would have reached her, she would have been too sick to read it within a week of her death.

Amy

Loved her. You will be missed.

Todd

She was great. Very memorable voice.

Angela

She was in a lot of the episodes (including the most memorable one for me). RIP

Angela

I always loved this woman, her performances, and her mannerisms. I was at a theater event in New York City a few years ago and she just walked in the front door, as good as you please, as if she was "nothing special." She was so gracious and polite. I revered her and respected her talent and what she gave us. There will never be another one quite like her!

Lori

Joseph Kearns is close to the top of the heap, in my opinion.

Jeff

Parley Baer was the long time voice of Ernie, the Keebler Elf.

Bob

High praise! I can't remember this one, but plan to listen to it tonight. Marian Seldes is one of my favorites.

Scott

What a wonderful woman, Marian Seldes, reading about her in the NY Times tributes to her, before and after her passing. Her face was instantly recognized as I saw her pictures, undoubtedly from her TV and film work, as is her voice. But most importantly she was an inspiration to so many, her grace and ability to impart wisdom and joy and love to her colleagues and students and family. A vitality of life lived for the stage and beyond. Amazing.

Paul

1936 episodes! Yikes! I'm just going to listen to the 206 she was in, at least to start.

Harlan

I'm sure she was a very nice lady, but I have mixed feelings about Marian Seldes as an actress. I often find her performances to be overdone and hammy, yet other times I think she is really good and suited for her parts. It really depends on the episode and the role she's playing. She's not my all-time favorite CBSRMT actress, but she's not at the bottom of the list either.

Amy

She was a busy actress. I recently saw her, in an episode of Have Gun, Will Travel.

Michael

I remember the first time I saw her picture. I was in the children's library in El Segundo, California/. She was in a book down there. I saw her picture, and what stuck out the most were her intense features. Her eyes were not direct, they were intensely direct! Her eyes were not dark, they were intensely dark. Her smile was not big, it was enormous. I never forgot her face.

Robert

I'm not sure which of her episodes was my absolute favorite. She was in so many episodes. There were some roles that stood out for me. I enjoyed "Return of the Morsbeys" and "Trilby". She did really well at portraying Czech women on a couple of Cold War episodes.

Anne

She was a busy actress. I recently saw her, in an episode of Have Gun, Will Travel.

Michael

remember the first time I saw her picture. I was in the children's library in El Segundo, California/. She was in a book down there. I saw her picture, and what stuck out the most were her intense features. Her eyes were not direct, they were intensely direct! Her eyes were not dark, they were intensely dark. Robert

I love Marian Seldes. I grew up with her voice on my desk almost every night coming from my clock radio. Her CBSMT episodes are my favorites & I enjoy her screen appearances. Home Alone 3 is always a Christmas favorite.

Robert

Marian Seldes had such a bubbly and friendly voice on so many episodes. She was also a good cryer. She was excellent playing the evil and good person inside one body in Vanity and Jane. With Paul Hecht. But that’s about it, I think.… not too much evil in that sweet, lovely voice.
