This is a story of shipwreck in the early 1800's. On a voyage from India to England a man and woman survive the wreck of a ship that went down in a storm. They manage to make it to a small island where they will live for some time. Not much more should be said about this episode as events will unfold throughout the program. I liked this program. It could be top 10% material. It's a good listen and an adventure. I found the hour spent listening to this program to be enjoyable and I think that says a lot for any program.

Ah, I'm a sucker for a good bittersweet, romantic, swashbuckling, shipwrecked on a deserted island tale, with nice array of sound effects, like this "Phantom World" episode.

Melanie

A wonderful poignant story. One of my favourites!

Just a follow-up to my earlier comment. I wonder why this episode was called "Phantom World" - can somebody explain that? And the actor information above shows two women, however there is only one woman in the episode - was that an oversight? Thanks!

Agree..episode was very well written and performed. The title "Phantom World" does not make sense. I also am not csure why two women are listed in the cast. There was only one female performer

The female performer must have done both voices. I understand that this was commonplace in the days of radio drama.

Regarding the two women listed in the cast while only one female voice is in the program. If we listen to EG at the end of the show he clearly says Robert Maxwell. A male actor with a similar name.

Great episode. However, I can not find it in my CBS Radio Mystery Theater "Episode Guide and Handbook". Anyone else cone across this issue?

Update. "Phantom World" is called "Phantom Paradise" in the CBS Radio Mystery Theater "Episode Guide and Handbook". A mistake for sure....but I think a better title for the episode.

EG Marshall lists Robert Maxwell as one of the actors. Not Roberta. So his episode count should be 34 and Roberta's 46. I loved waiting for 9pm as a teenager to hear the creaking door on the radio, only to fall asleep before the end of the show.
