Kind of scary and interesting-the wonders[and horrors!]of science.

I first heard this episode back in 1976 when I was 16 years old; and it still stands out as one of my favorites.

A couple inherit an estate that has been long since abandoned. It exists on the shores of Dead Lake where locals claim there lives a horrible creature with an appetite for all manner of living beast. Visiting the estate they find a squatter inhabiting the place. He is a scientist conducting exotic and frightening genetic experiments. The castle is filled with his horrific creatures and the couple, with the help of some locals, attempt to rid the place of the most horrific of all… the GIANT LEECH!!! A fun episode that would have scared the pants off me as a child. In the vein of The Fly.

Lando

Goofy, but fun. The sound quality is not great.

Kind of a fun episode to listen to. Not really like Dr. Moreau but it somewhat reminded me of it. Interesting that they had a squatter on the property for 30 years and no one thought it strange.

Alec

The horror of Dead Lake is my favorite.

Good episode, like most I've heard are. However, since it takes place in Florida, it would be nice if the speech patterns of the characters more strongly reflected the region it takes place in, in this case, the South.

Love this episode! If you are interested in where then look up Saint Augustine, Florida 32084 and follow CR 207 southwest to Palatka, Florida on Google Maps. Dead Lake is on the outskirts of Hastings, Florida.

I am listening to the CBS Mystery Theater episode, Secret of Dead Lake, about a giant leech which has been artificially created. I automatically thought of Revolt of the Worms, an old Lights Out episode. I used to go out in the summertime after dark to find night crawlers...You usually could catch them breeding after a rain. Dad used to raise them in the basement to use for fishing. He also used to sell them so I had to go down into the dark basement and sit in the coal cellar to take them out of the box. I think if I had heard Revolt of the Worms back then, you couldnt have gotten me to go down in the basement.

Damn hermaphrodites. . . there aughta be a law! 😝 Get up real early when the dew is still on the grass and the earth is moist and zap them with a magneto from a model T.... or take and extension cord and separate the wires. Tape each wire to a piece of metal rod and insert them in the ground 3 or 4 feet apart. Stand clear and plug it in. Unplug (lol) and pick up the escapees fleeing the electricity. I saw this done when I was a kid. Works like a charm.

This was one of my favorite shows as a kid!
