Gus, Jacob, and Anna, "The Polish Connection." That should have been the title of this episode. Fred Gwynn did an amazing job as he normally does playing a low-budget bridge manager who laments over his former life as a distinguish detective. He thwarts a suicide attempt of a down and out immigrant who is so low on life that he figures there is nothing to live for. These two down and outers rediscover a reason to live. This is a great episode. And might I add, it was more of a "standard fair" Mystery Theater episode and not an adaptation. 1982 was full of less than average episodes because they seemed to have abandoned original material. Way too many adaptations in 82 and not enough original scripts like this one. This episode is worthy of 4 stars.

Gwynn is normally excellent but not so here. The episode opens with him stumbling over his lines that he clearly was reading for the first time. Painful.
