An odd episode that went in different directions. I found the sequence in which Jobo , against his will, engaged in a wrestling match was funny.

A classic, unforgettable episode. The story totally captivated me one afternoon in 1977 when I was about nine years old. The beauty of this kind of radio, was that one is was merely a passive listener. You had to use a wonderful capacity within you known as IMAGINATION, and that made the experience incredibly fun and very special indeed.

"A mildly retarded hick" - very sensitive, guys. Shame on you.

Yeah, how about "A simple-minded 6'6" Texas farmhand" instead? (Or "slow-witted"?)

Karen

Actually, the politically correct euphemism today is "Mild Intellectual Disability", but these terms are frequently subject to change once people begin using them to taunt others. "Mental Retardation" was a perfectly acceptable term when these shows were produced. The terms Idiot, Imbecile and Moran were once clinical terms but they fell out of favor when children and adults began using them as insults.

I usually like Henry Slesar episodes, but, this one??? I just didn't car for it.

He's from Tennessee, not Texas.

LMBO, Good catch, how ironic....

After reading a newspaper article about Jobo Haley, a Tennessee hillbilly who looks like one of the very tall, very slender stone statues found only on Easter Island, archeologist John Tilletson organizes an expedition to the Pacific paradise, while his daughter, Alma, heads for Tennessee. Both discover identical objects -- shiny silver medallions previously unknown to archeologists. Only Jobo and an Easter Island common thief are able to explain the historical significance and the astonishing relationship of the two strange objects.
