MARK TWAIN SERIES: CBS Radio Mystery Theater produced a total of eleven adaptations from Mark Twain's works for the show; nine were written by Sam Dann with Ian Martin writing only two. [0119] The Real Printer's Devil [0408] Tom Sawyer, Detective [0409] Is He Living or Is He Dead? [0410] The Belated Russian Passport [0411] A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court [0412] The Man that Corrupted Hadleyburg [0413] The Stolen White Elephant [0414] The Mysterious Stranger [0937] The Dead House [0984] A Curious Experience [1002] The Goddess Caper** The show always tried to kick off each new year of their Anniversary (in early January) with a weeklong series written by the same author, and so Sam Dann wrote episodes 408 through 414 to launch the start of their third season. **1002 was based on “The Legend of the Capitoline Venus”

Mark Main

Fred Gwynne was a very good voice actor. Who knew that the guy who played Herman Munster had such a gift?

Hayley

What an unexpected gem this story is. Excellent voice work by Fred Gwynne, and a really wonderful story from Mark Twain on just how human and prone to temptation we all are. Like many of Mark Twain's works, it's seeped in a realistic view of how most often it is our transgressions that makes equals of all mankind.

Celena

Great observation by Celena-so true. How that "equality" occurs is not a pretty sight though as this epidose so aptly demonstrated in essence. If one had the inclination to try and pick the best episode of the 1,399,this one would be on the shortlist. That is if such a thing would be possible, and we all know that would be asking too much....I am beginning to sound like EG Marshall,,,,Yeah, I can handle that:)

Misha Allport

I agree with Celena that this was a great Twain story and great voice work by all involved. Not much more needs to be said I think.

Alec

where is the music at the end of act three from, it sounds familiar?
