MARK TWAIN SERIES: CBS Radio Mystery Theater produced a total of eleven adaptations from Mark Twain's works for the show; nine were written by Sam Dann with Ian Martin writing only two. [0119] The Real Printer's Devil [0408] Tom Sawyer, Detective [0409] Is He Living or Is He Dead? [0410] The Belated Russian Passport [0411] A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court [0412] The Man that Corrupted Hadleyburg [0413] The Stolen White Elephant [0414] The Mysterious Stranger [0937] The Dead House [0984] A Curious Experience [1002] The Goddess Caper** The show always tried to kick off each new year of their Anniversary (in early January) with a weeklong series written by the same author, and so Sam Dann wrote episodes 408 through 414 to launch the start of their third season. **1002 was based on “The Legend of the Capitoline Venus”

I vaguely remember reading the original story. Still a good, light-hearted story and a fairly good adaptation (from what I remember).

Heh. The commercial on the metric system cracked me up. Here we are 40 years later and we still purchase gas by the gallon not the liter and all the speed limits are listed in Mile Per Hour instead of Kilometers Per Hour. - Anyway... another fine adaption of a Mark Twain classic by RMT. Enjoyed it very much!

Definitely a simpler, lighter-hearted version than Twain's original (which actually becomes rather dark and cynical about modernity, technology and humanity itself by the end of it). The late, great Kevin McCarthy is sensational as always, but everyone else is great, too. Very enjoyable. The only issue with this recording is/are a number of staticky audio dropouts cropping up over the last 15 minutes or so, at points simply becoming crackly silence for a few seconds at a time, which is distracting and annoying but mercifully brief. Other than that it is a fine recording. Well worth the listen.

I heard of the book many times, most likely as reference to it. I enjoyed it.

Dan

Very enjoyable and fun story! I'll be looking to find the entire book asap!
