MARK TWAIN SERIES: CBS Radio Mystery Theater produced a total of eleven adaptations from Mark Twain's works for the show; nine were written by Sam Dann with Ian Martin writing only two. [0119] The Real Printer's Devil [0408] Tom Sawyer, Detective [0409] Is He Living or Is He Dead? [0410] The Belated Russian Passport [0411] A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court [0412] The Man that Corrupted Hadleyburg [0413] The Stolen White Elephant [0414] The Mysterious Stranger [0937] The Dead House [0984] A Curious Experience [1002] The Goddess Caper** The show always tried to kick off each new year of their Anniversary (in early January) with a weeklong series written by the same author, and so Sam Dann wrote episodes 408 through 414 to launch the start of their third season. **1002 was based on “The Legend of the Capitoline Venus”

A fairly good story by Mark Twain. I don't think I've read the original of this one, but it is certainly a story from him. "Just trust in providence"

Alec

Good story!

Tina Garten

Ah yeah nice one!!

Ross

Fun episode! I was not familiar with the original Mark Twain version so reaching the end was a real thrill!

Pamela

great acting and wonderful sound effects makes the listener feel like they are in 19th century Russia

Keith ballard

I swear the older American was also the voice of Yukon Cornelius from Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer (1964). The AP said that Yukon was as actually voiced by Larry D. Mann who died in 2014.

Michael

I just listened to this and was convinced this was Yukon as well. Did an IMDB search which says no, but I swear it sounds like him. You weren't the only person to think so

David

I was thinking exactly the same thing while listening to the episode, and had to look it up to see.

Joe Mama

This episode ranks near the top for me. Great story, great actors. Add me to the list of thinking it was the same actor who voiced the role of Yukon Cornelius. I’m so convinced of it that I wonder if the actor used a different name for voice work programming intended for children.

Susan

Good story. Very well done and had great momentum. It kept you on the edge of your seat and had a wonderful Mark Twain ending.
