This one really fooled me! I thought I knew the detective was the killer when he wanted to take her away!

Roger

When a shy young woman fears for her life after testifying against a vengeful drug kingpin, she does what anyone would: heads for the "swinging singles" scene of the 70s-era Pocono Mountains with a friend. Cheesy thrills ensue as it becomes more difficult to tell friend from foe. But while the ladies enjoy ping pong and croquet, a killer may be closing in.

Whoa! This one had some real surprises. Had me fooled. Very well-crafted story! The "moral" wasn't too uplifting, though. As Oscar Wilde allegedly said, "No good deed goes unpunished."

Nancy

A woman has turned in a gangster to the police and received a small reward. The gangster wants her dead so a person is hired to exact his revenge.

Christie

Courageous Amy Hasting has just given testimony that brought down Archer Hamlin, New York's most notorious drug kingpen. Now his agents are pursuing her at a remote resort where she and a friend are vacationing.

Sharon Loch

A fun script that smacks of the 1970s in the most delightful way. A woman receives well-publicized accolades for ‘fingering’ a well known mob boss. Her reward: cash from the newspaper, and death threats from the mob. She and a friend take off for a week’s holiday at a ‘swinging singles’ retreat (hahaha! Why don’t they still exist!?) where she encounters both friend and foe in the most unpredictable places. The episode has several twists and shifts to keep the listener guessing.

This is one of the most authentic ones they ever did. I truly felt I was at a lodge in the Pocono Mountains. Brilliant writing and acting made this one a personal favorite of mine.

Another one I managed to guess the ending of; there are plenty of clues in the episode. Of course, it's in the mob's interest to kill her BEFORE she testifies, not after the conviction! I wonder why she wasn't in witness protection; her testimony made her a celebrity. And as the epilogue points out, her story isn't over yet; she's only survived Chapter One. Mystery, no supernatural elements.

Andy

I loved the surprise and believable ending. I and my 12-year-old son (yes, he's hooked now) were guessing wrong the whole time.

Great episode. Once again, classic radio sound effects--like the galloping horse. A fresh twist was the fact that the story was not really complete at episode's end. I also like the casting of Lyn Loring--she sounded like the young woman she was portraying. 4 stars.

Definitely one of the best. Think I know every line of this one now. Have probably played it while falling asleep 150 times in the past few years. Amy Hastings, Ralph Cook, George Smith, Fred Russell, Lois Wilson: the names try a bit too hard to seem 'typical', but they only add to the coolness after a while. Favorite lines are when Lois Wilson tries to fire an arrow and misses wildly, almost hitting Amy Hastings, and then remarks: "I think I'd have been better off without...help" And, George Smith senses the accusation and replies: "What are you trying to say, Lois?" "Nothing, I'm just glad that Amy's alright" Cracks me up every time. "Let's dance, it'll seem more natural"...Suave, damn, Ralph Cook is one suave f__k! There is like a short list of 10-15 CBS Radio Mystery Theatre episodes that really stand above the others. IMHO, this is one of them.

Jody Schmidt

Great episode with great classic radio sound effects

I have to agree 100% with Jody Schmidt. I have listened to this one over and over for man years. I had it on cassette tape. I kept making copies, because I knew the ape would eventually break. This story starts off terrifically with the car driving to the mountains, Lois and Amy chit chatting, then the lodge; cozy and fun. This was all recorded in a studio. It is amazing the effect it has on some of us.

Another really great CBSRMT! Ralph Bell does such a great job as the bad guy in so many of these programs, it's gotten to the point where I always suspect him first. He is one of my favorite actors.

Celena

Probably one of the best so far in the series. I really didn't know who it was until the reveal at the end. However, that being said I did wonder why the police would've allowed her testimony to be sensationalized about her as well as not putting her into a witness protection program. They could keep a police watch on her, but the witness protection plan is probably the better (and cheaper) one.

Alec

5 stars. In addition to everyone's comments, it really captures the social scene of the 70's. Loved it.

A vacation is in order for Amy Hastings after turning in the mobster who handled most of the city’s illegal drugs. But when Amy and her friend Lois arrive at a singles resort they are watched by two men — one of which is a police detective, the other a mobster out to murder Amy. So many men approach Amy that it’s impossible to know which of them is the would-be murderer, until the detective realizes that she’s in more imminent danger than anyone thought.

Jack

Taking a gander!

Scooter D and the greens

I really enjoyed this episode with commercials! From the sound effects to the music and the really great character acting. Move over James Bond, it's Ralph, Ralph Cooke. Yes after getting a mob boss convicted for a measly grand head straight for a swinging singles lodge after numerous threatening phone calls! What a hoot! What happened to witsec? But overall it is a fun listen so give it a try! The ending is surprising!

Nancy

Great episode! Not sure what is new but a lot of episodes have added 70s newscasts and commercials. Wonderful! Love it!

Regan

A well-written story.
